(+1)

(+6)(-2)

I need my goon material back :(

YO SAME

(+5)

Hell Yeah, fuck the big companies

(+8)(-74)

You are a grown ass man whining on the internet that you can't make porn games on a website where ANYBODY can play them. Please realize how dumb you look. This game is not a "dating simulator" literally every option leads to would-be sex.

(+47)(-2)

You're an idiot lol.

(1 edit) (+17)

Why do you assume a man wrote this?

(+4)(-1)

are you mental twin?

(+4)

Are ya an employee of those company?

(+5)(-1)

and you're a grown ass woman on the internet whinning in the comment section of an adult game, that you would have had to look for given how this site works,  on a website like any other indie developer site about a grown ass man protesting with a game he made. welcome to the internet sister, shit's whack here. live in hate and suffer or live in love and prosper. peace out hun. ✌️

(+1)

And why the fuck are you even playing or clicking on this game in the first place? 😃

(+2)(-1)

Here, I'll just repost this comment I left on this forum because you don't deserve an original comment:

"You know porn games are also games too, right? Like that's literally the second half of "porn game"?

In that same vein of thought, you can also appreciate a piece of art as a piece of art and not just necessarily in the manner of "EHHEUEHEHUHEH SEX". Like, y'know, there's some famous paintings out there that have breasts and dicks out on display, but I guess museums are just places where porn is openly shared, and not for any other reason.

Also wow I sure do hope the concept of censorship doesn't apply to any other fields such as violence or gore, like with Fallout, Grand Theft Auto, Dead Space, Elder Scrolls, Star Wars, Deus Ex, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dark Souls, or any other popular video game franchises or brands that have been built on the concept. (Oh, wait, Mastercard, Visa, and the other payment processors that have threatened Itch.io have ALSO SPECIFICALLY OUTLINED VIOLENCE AS SOMETHING TO THEY'D LIKE TO BAN AS WELL? Wow, that's quite a shame. I'm sure they'll only stop at NSFW things, though, as it's not like there was a literal entire generation of people who grew up on the concept of music and board games being heavily restricted/considered socially unacceptable - I'm sure there's no historic precedent for that kind of thing.)

I sure do hope you don't enjoy porn whatsoever, because this isn't just happening on Itch, either, it's been happening for years on OnlyFans, Pornhub, and plenty of other platforms and websites that YOU USE IF YOU HAVE OR EVER WILL ENJOY ANYTHING NSFW.

TL;DR: Please be quiet and let people enjoy things. Better yet, just don't use the internet. There's NSFW things everywhere online, so best you'd best to simply not use it at all and then everyone's happy."

what- huh- whats going on??

(+5)

Apparently a pro-censorship anti-porn group called Collective Shout has lobbied Stripe and Paypal to not accept money for websites that have adult material on them.  This has caused smaller companies like itch.io to delist adult games until they can get payments back.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_Shout

https://itch.io/updates/update-on-nsfw-content

(1 edit) (-1)

Itch.io basically de-listed any sort of NSFW games from the store, people complained, then Itch.io magically found a spine and re-listed what was on the store, though the developer Nomax (who made the game called Conway) on Itch.io also commented the statement in a thread, "Conway and other NSFW games currently can't accept donations if we want to be visible on the site."

So it seems like Itch.io, the payment processors, or some combination of the two is fully intent on keeping NSFW works from making any kind of money.

cool shit man

(+5)

i support ts wholeheartedly

Agreed, adult can't enjoy adult content is wild.

Cool, man

(+8)

seems to have been at least a little effective. nsfw be back boi!!

(+6)

The message is nice, but you should totally finish this game one day lol. It is a shame we're caught in a modern-day moral panic though

We always were - from the Red Scare to the panic about DND, metal music and weed, it's just been one very extended (and admittedly, at times, quiet) moral panic.

(+3)(-2)

love the message caught my cousin playing this game in my phone and started rage quitting when the censorship came up sign me in!

(+8)(-2)

Shit man. Not gonna lie, that hit me hard almost started tearing up. Strong message and very well delivered. Bravo. I've already been backing this movement to stop censorship but this gave me even more drive to push harder. Thank you and keep on creating. Sending as much love and support as I can and will share the message.

(+3)(-9)

A porn game made you cry?

the dev literally talked about that in the game. please.

There's barely even porn about this game. It's just suggestive in its own right.

(1 edit) (-1)

"A piece of media with a message made you cry? What are you, a little bitch?"

Yeah, man, almost like people enjoy content when it's looking to be genuine and has a good message. Do you think it's bad feel deeply about something you care about?

(+15)(-1)

A game made of spite and in protest of this unfair movement?.....sing me in!!!!

(+22)(-2)

Thanks for posting this, although I don't play the game (I like boys^^) I stand by your stance!

This site is one of the few places where I get to play a lot of romantic games (whether the target is a boy or a girl), and the NSFW content is a chapter for me to be able to connect with my romantic interests on a deeper level, and I'm saddened to see so many wonderful creations blocked or even deleted!!!! The world is getting more and more scary, people with normal minds don't commit crimes just because they play NSFW games.

I'm sorry to say this in a rude way, but mobbing or even blocking games is total SXXT! Those groups will only attack games, and they wouldn't dare to attack groups or Hollerwood who create TV and film with gory or violent content! It's really a joke that they only care about the virtual and not the real to protect the women or children they claim to defend!!!!

Wish this world could be better and more embracing, our society is going back to the way it was.

I already signed the petition

And that part about "The indie game that made you cry at 2am" hit for me

(+7)(-1)

man why this show up I was just lookin' for some horror... but I would join the protest if I knew code and I had good drawing let alone having a stomach and dignity to draw this stuff

(+5)(-1)

You can learn to code, Ren'py is fairly simple, and there's a plentiful amount of instructive guides on HTML, CSS, C++, Java, and other languages on Youtube and via text.

You just need to put the time and effort into it, but it's worth it - especially with how everything is being digitized and uploaded, it'd be smart for everyone to have a little knowledge with all of this stuff.

oh really? well there is I can't draw good... only decent but tries.

Well, there's drawing guides out there. It's definitely not "easy" to improve art skills by any measure (I tried to improve for a bit in HS), but if you're doing it consistently, I've heard that you'll improve with time.

I also imagine that doing different styles, subjects and using different themes can all help you with finding your artistic voice.

The important thing to take away is to stick to something if you're interested in it - ESPECIALLY when it gets hard, as that's the formative part (and arguably the most important) of improving on a skill.

(1 edit) (+8)(-1)

I very much agree with this protest

I hate how all social media is getting rid of the ACTUALLY GOOD CONTENT

(+3)

It won't, this kind of thing has been happening for decades.

(+40)(-1)

so many NSFW games came out of itch.io that i genuinely played for the plot and censoring something like that is just outrageous. were getting closer and closer to making 1984 into reality. other than that i really enjoyed the references about the situation in the game itself, i hope you creators are gonna get your way.

(+5)(-1)

Speech brother. Social media is tuning into a real life, modern day, 1984. And that's scary as fuck. Everyone suffers except those who control. Nobody has real ideas. The lowers one don't die phsyically, we die mentally. Our creativity, gone. Our freedom, what's that? We all do the same thing, make boring, cheesy, cringy, "family friendly" shitty content/games. YouTube and Tumblr have already fallen for it the most, Itch and Steam are getting closer. Before, it was just ACTUALLY things to censor, like death threats, extreme homophobia/heterophobia. Now it's fucking WORDS, IDEAS, STORIES, SEX, MENTAL FUCKING ILLNESS. The internet is censoring life itself. I really hope we don't fall into 1984, but from it seems, it might be too late.

(+7)(-1)

Pretty cool game!

Is there a way to support you outside from itch?

I made the promise of never purchasing a single game on itch until they change their policies and stop removing already purchased games from players libraries.

I'm somehow ok with them delisting games they see problematic for their bussiness but removing already purchased games from player's libraries is like a war crime for me so, if you have a patreon, kofi or any other way to give you some coins it would be great. Let me know.

(+4)(-1)

You can't support me outside of itch.io right now, unfortunately. You can however, share the game and get the word out, which would mean a lot to me

Admin(+4)(-7)

Can you please link to an example of where a game was removed from someone’s library? Unfortunately there’s a lot of misinformation going around. None of the changes that were deployed last week impacted availability of content in libraries. You can learn more on the FAQ on this post: https://itch.io/updates/update-on-nsfw-content#addendum-faq

Greetings! My game "SCP: Affection" is still under shadowban, even tho I followed the new rules. May you please unban it? Also I don't have access to your discord server. Best Regards!

  1. Please don’t hijack other people’s comments for your own support issue
  2. We didn’t “shadow ban” anyone. We “deindexed” a subset of pages from the discovery part of the site based on some criteria and announced it to our users https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_banning
  3. Your page does not follow the new rules because you still are accepting payments on it. Please read here: https://itch.io/t/5149036/reindexing-adult-nsfw-content
(2 edits)

I can guarantee you that they don't care what the actual, literary definition of "shadow banning" is, because the concept is the same - they aren't getting paid when the donations should be going to them because of Itch's dog-ass policies.

Admin

The literal definition is very important: we specifically didn’t “ban” creators to enable them to still collect where possible while we look for a long term solution that doesn’t put the platform at risk.

(2 edits)

Maybe you can find them for yourself if you're an employee of Itch.io instead of asking in a thread on one specific game where I had to scroll down for quite a while to access these comments. Kind of a stupid way of finding out which games have been de-listed, but I imagine you said that moreso because you think you have some kind of "one-up" on the people putting stuff on this platform with that line, but you don't. It just makes you and the platform (I'm presuming you work for) look lazy and deliberately cruel.

The "misinformation" is most certainly because Itch.io did pulled a bunch of games from the storefront with literally no warning, even though Itch has presented itself (at least, one account on Twitter definitely did) as a platform SPECIFICALLY FOR NSFW ARTISTS AND DEVELOPERS.

(7 edits)

Admittedly the original version of this comment was made in error, I completely misunderstood what leafo was asking, but I'm more than willing to say that I spoke out of turn and was unnecessarily rude, but I would also say that it should go to show that I think how this was handled by Itch to be a massive blunder.

Also the first paragraph on the post above is another example of my misunderstanding why they were asking, but I'll leave that one as-is because I'm willing to both admit and show that my ego and/or pride were misplaced.

TL;DR: Said some smarmy shit and got put in my place, I'm enough of an adult to admit it.

Admin (1 edit)

We didn’t do any code changes that would prevent people from accessing content. The reason why I’m asking for people to share instances of issues because it’s been cases of people confused about how the website works, so I want to understand where the confusion is coming from. We’ve already made a few updates to the UI in some areas to make it more clear about access in cases where pages had to be taken down. I’ve been going around to people who are making claims to get a better understanding of their situation. Hope that makes sense.

(3 edits)

Oh yes, the changes in code are definitely the issue here, and not the whole part about "people getting de-listed from the main store even though they were following the original rules Itch had in place until they decided to change them" or anything like that.

What's gonna happen to developer projects and creators when someone with more power than Itch (like payment processors, for example) decides they don't like violent content? I'm sure Itch will stand up against them like they did for the NSFW creators, right?

Or maybe Itch will just change the policies again and decide to de-list anything with "harmful depictions of violence", and MAYBE Itch will later decide to re-list the games after enough people complain, but I doubt it since Itch has already been more than happy to throw their creators under the bus, so I can only imagine how eager the platform will be to do it again for the sake of our ever-so-benevolent financial overlords.

Frankly, I can only imagine Visa and Mastercard have been emboldened to threaten Itch again, since it cooperated so efficiently in the past, and now will be even more interested in following through with their threats specifically BECAUSE the platform decided to pull the rug out from under everyone and start dictating who gets paid and when.

(+8)(-1)

devs can set so that 0% of the money goes to itch, I'd like that

(+4)(-1)

Very nice message.

except for some typoes in the text (scout and scout... collective shout // wierd)

Love it! :)

(+9)(-1)

The pun is that "Collette and scout" sounds like collective shout... or is supposed to anyway

(+1)(-1)

ye i guessed. but still the typo "scout scout" is in there in the Scout text

(+19)

I fully agree and am supporting this game's message, and I want people to know itch.io's perspective as well.

Like the game said games that push the boundaries and express the intimate part of the human experience are extremely important and should be able to thrive on its platform and bring livelihood to their creators. They should be able to reach people who need to feel validated that their thoughts and actions AREN'T awful and that repressing everything is a bad thing.

But the situation right now as I understand it is that the biggest contributor of this livelihood Mastercard and Visa, (Even though is it individual people with their own money and will that really shouldn't be able to be controlled by a company) are threatening to completely KILL this site and stop allowing people to pay for ANYTHING hosted on this platform.

I think itch.io wanted to protect as much of their creators as they could in the face of a threat like this, and so had to act accordingly.

Their statement said that they're reviewing the games they've delisted which hopefully means that in time they will be listed once more

Itch.io had to unfairly choose and it's awful but that is what the situation called for unfortunately

The people and groups really to blame for disrupting the livelihood of creators and stopping people from being seen are collective shout and Mastercard and Visa for somehow getting convinced by this Australian non-profit with not even 50,000 people to make the rash decision of pulling away from itch.io at the expense of thousands of creators, and hundreds of thousands of consumers.

But those are just my thoughts that I still have the freedom of sharing thank god

(+17)(-1)

They are not even censoring things like these because they care about the children.

Not really, that’s just a cover to push forward their own agenda or control.

(+7)(-46)

BUT it's not just about making a game with rape, incest, or mutilation. Do you really need to see a crime to be sexually stimulated?

I don't agree with such a broad sanction by the payment companies, but they have the right to not want their brand associated with games that support rape and oppression

(1 edit) (+38)(-2)

Payment companies absolutely do not have the right to block whatever they find unappealing to their 'brand.'

Jesus Christ, their entire purpose is to facilitate transactions between two places, that's it. I hope there are a thousand more games like this that push this wave of censorship to breaking point because ruling what is and is not fit for public consumption is not the job of fucking Visa.

(+31)(-2)

Nobody’s arguing that rape or mutilation are good things. The point is that fiction, even dark and uncomfortable fiction, exists to explore extremes, not to promote them. Just like watching a war film doesn’t make you a war criminal, playing a game with taboo content doesn’t mean you’re about to commit a crime. Shockingly, people are capable of separating fantasy from reality. Who knew?

What’s really worrying is that payment processors are acting like the new moral police, cutting off support to anything that doesn’t fit their blurry definition of acceptable. So who gets to decide what counts as oppressive or too offensive? Is it just whatever makes a PR guy nervous that day?

If a company doesn’t want to be associated with certain content, fine. But at least be consistent, be clear, and stop pretending it’s about protecting people. It’s not. It’s about brand image and control, and that’s a much bigger problem than any piece of messed-up fiction.

(+5)

I have inherited these censorship tools from their previous holders and have decided that a genre of games you enjoy (train stuff, judging by your other comments) is now banned because it may help those with intent to cause harm familiarise themselves with transportation systems. No more sims, peasant.

See the problem yet?

(For the record: I have no problem with any genre of sim games)

(+1)

Keep those in if it means people can have creative freedom :)

(2 edits) (+15)

Although I am not an NSFW game consumer (not yet at least ;)),this makes a very valid argument, especially the part about NSFW games funding other, SFW projects. Even though it's not a game, it reminded me of the story of Nagatoro-san; the mangaka started initially drawing doujinshi, and then switshed to more SFW stuff, even if Nagatoro-san is still on the edgier side of things, and look at it! It's become a very well known and respected (maybe) manga and even got itself an anime adaptation.

Even if some poeple go too far, I trust the NSFW game community and the porn connaisseurs to self-regulate themselves, and create a healthy and welcoming ecosystem.

I think that taking away this launch pad for creators and home for consumers, is a net negative for the online community as a whole.

(1 edit) (+10)(-11)

Though I do want to make clear that I find games like No Mercy  not ok and that the people who made it should probably have the tip of their penis papercutted and that it is very refflective of the hostility that women have to face both online and in real life today.

However, from what i've seen, it has been greatly blown out of proportion.

And even if it was just as horrible as people were saying, nuking the entire adult game genre for a few sick fucks seem excessive to me.

Moreover, claiming that companies like Mastercard or Visa are endorsing these games by hosting monetary transactions for them and are thus benefiting from it, even though it maybe represents one pico-percent of their yearly income is disingenuous and unrealistic.

I don't want to pull a perfect-world-falacy here but the answer to me seems to "just" be harder moderation if we don't want games like this, though that would require companies like Steam to actually give a fuck about their consumers...
